Shortly after the Fletchers arrive, Tom and Pippa purchase Summer Bay House and the Caravan Park from Alf Stewart , who had lived there with his late wife, Martha , and their daughter, Roo . They quickly make friends in the community including park tenants Floss and Neville McPhee and local shopkeeper Ailsa Hogan . Tom makes an enemy of neighbour Donald Fisher after he and Pippa foster local tearaway Bobby Simpson .
Christopher "Chris" Daniel Fletcher is the son of Tom Fletcher and Pippa Ross. He's the adoptive son of Michael Ross and the stepson of Ian Routledge. He's also the adoptive father of Sally Fletcher and the adoptive grandfather of Pippa Saunders. Home and Away icon Sally Fletcher was only small when she arrived in Summer Bay with her foster parents .
Roo Stewart
Despite resistance from Sally and Michael's son Haydn , Pippa and Michael marry. Frank decides to move in with Narelle Smart (Amanda Newman-Phillips) to have time away from the Fletcher home. Frank realises that he likes Bobby when she spends time with Alan and Brett. While working for the Macklins, Stacey is annoyed when he accuses Brett of theft and gets Frank demoted and replaces him with Tom. Frank tells Bobby who kisses him and they start a relationship. Bobby is later injured during a robbery and loses her memory.
The undercurrent of tension between Tom and Pippa begins to affect the children. Spurred on by Samuels, Steven throws himself into his new athletic pursuits. And when producers tried to reunite the original cast for Sally’s exit, they couldn’t track Helena down. Nicolle, who has two grown-up sons, began working with her husband, doing the books for his business, then studied for an accountancy degree and started a new career in finance. Like many of her Home and Away co-stars Nicolle continued to act for a short while after she left the show.
Birth of Pippa
Downing quit the role in 1990, and Debra Lawrance was then cast. Pippa departed on 18 March 1998, but Lawrance has reprised the role for numerous returns between 2000 and 2009. However the Macklin family open the Sands Resort and Tom takes a job there. Further good news arrives when Pippa learns she is pregnant despite Tom's vasectomy. The couple worry Pippa may die during childbirth but decide to take risk. Pippa is healthy and they celebrate the birth of their newborn son, Christopher (Ashleigh Bell-Weir).
Frank has been played by actors Bradley Pilato and Michael Scilusa during flashback sequences. Pippa is the daughter of Bert (Kevin Healy; Peter Collingwood) and Coral King . Pippa married her brother Danny's army mate Tom Fletcher in 1969 and they foster Frank Morgan in 1978 after his parents Les and Helena are incapable of looking after him. As time passes they take in more children from various homes and institutions; Carly Morris , Lynn Davenport , Sally Keating and Steven Matheson . Tom is retrenched in early 1988 and the family leave the city and relocate to Summer Bay and buy the local Caravan Park from Alf Stewart . Local troublemaker Bobby Simpson causes problems for the family by picking fights with Carly.
Sally Fletcher
While Matt Buchanan from The Sydney Morning Herald said that he could not even remember the character. Off-screen the role had propelled Papps into fame and he was a firm favourite with viewers. The actor was never comfortable with the attention he received from the public. He has spoken of dismay of the "hype" surrounding the role as he believed it to be misplaced. However, Papps was still being recognised as the character twenty years later.
Eamonn McCusker of The Digital Fix said that Frank was a "decent-but-dim sort of man". He thought that Frank made a habit of walking down the aisle. McCusker also opined that the serial's romances were "relatively straightforward affairs"; but thought all that changed with the Frank/Roo/Bobby storyline. A columnist from TV Life said that Papps was the "resident heart-throb" and Frank did not have a problem free life and was much "better at guitar than academic work".
Pippa returned along with her mother, Sally Fletcher , on 15 July 2013. She was initially told the character she was reading for was called Poppy. Morrissey was not a regular viewer of Home and Away prior to landing the role of Pippa and she was not aware of who Ritchie was. However, they became close during filming and Morrissey commented "She was so nice. I just loved working with Kate, We kind of did act like mother and daughter."
Tom loses his job in the city and moves the Fletcher family to the town of Summer Bay. Pippa was placed sixth in TV Week's list of the "Top 10 Aussie TV mums". They wrote that the character was "kind-hearted", but had "more than her share of grief". They featured Frank and Roo's wedding story as their 66th choice. She appeared as Pippa until 1990, when she suddenly quit the series, apparently due to missing working with her former co-star Roger Oakley, who played her on-screen husband Tom. Producers did not want to kill off the character, as she was crucial to the storyline, so they recast the part instead. Auditions were held and it came down to two actresses; Jackie Woodburne and Debra Lawrance. Lawrance remained in the role until 1998 and has subsequently returned to guest star.
When Tom recovers and returns home, He accuses Pippa of having an affair with local shark Hunter Zac Burgess and their marriage undergoes a testing time but they manage to put it behind them. Pippa is left devastated when Tom suffers a second heart attack and dies. Michael Ross arrives in Summer Bay several months later and Pippa is clearly attracted to him but feels guilty as Tom has only been dead a few months.
They opined that "it was destined to be the wedding from hell" and noted that it "certainly went with a blast". They said that "there was never a soap romance more turbulent as Frank Morgan and Bobby Simpson's". They opined that Bobby had always fought a losing battle to win Frank's love and that admitted their sadness that "the tale turned sour".
The next year Pippa, along with many other past residents, return to Summer Bay for Sally's wedding to Kieran Fletcher . Pippa then sells the house to The Sutherland family before departing. Frank tires of Roo being mean to Ailsa Hogan and they split up.
Bobby Simpson
Work soon begins to take its toll on Tom and he collapses following a stroke and is hospitalised for a number of weeks. Following his recovery, Tom and Pippa's marriage faces a testing time in the next year when Zac Burgess a shark hunter makes a play for Pippa and rumours of an affair are spread around. However, Zac is driven out of town after his behaviour is exposed and Tom and Pippa reconcile. While driving back from a football game with Bobby, Steven and Sophie Simpson , Tom suffers a second stroke and crashes the car.
Dickson added that her character is "split in half" because for different reasons, one half of her wants to be with Frank, while the other wants to be with Greg. Papps decided to leave Home and Away to join the cast of The Flying Doctors; but he was still contracted to appear as Frank until May 1989. The actor told TV Guide's Maloney that he would miss his fellow cast members the most because he had become very close to them.
